“At least I’ve got my health!”

The subject line has been my flippant response to recent inquiries on how my life’s going. I’ll be saying it much more sincerely now that I’ve learned that a friend of mine is scheduled for surgery to remove a brain tumor on August 1. True, she’s an excellent candidate for surgery (young—well, my age—and otherwise healthy), and apparently this particularly type of growth turns out to be benign about 99 percent of the time, but still—yikes!
